Meet Martha

I look at coaching as a self-care practice. Taking the time to speak with my own coach provides me with the personal reflective space that I need to create a sense of clarity and flow in my life. My passion in life is to create beauty and flow in my surrounding and my interactions. Where there is flow, there is beauty; where there is beauty, there is radiance.

It is my strong belief that life should not feel like a grind. Every day and every interaction should flow and create a sense of joy that energizes, rather than depletes us. The world often interacts with us in the same way that we interact with it. I love to work with people in helping to shift perspectives so that more of life can feel like a gift instead of a burden, so that we can learn more lessons without the consequences. Sometimes, a change in perspective is sufficient to reduce friction and create more flow; at other times, new insights will lead to new actions and behaviors.

The greatest gift we can give to ourselves and to those around us is to be joyful in life. When we are joyful, we show up as more kind, giving, and compassionate individuals. In this state, we have energy to serve those we love from a place of abundance, rather than scarcity. This is what I strive for in my own life and this is what I strive to help my clients achieve in theirs. Sometimes, to achieve this, we must remove things from our lives that no longer serve us to create space for the things that truly matter; often, it means setting better boundaries for our own behaviors and those of others.

I became a life coach because I enjoy listening to people and I understand that the messages we bring to the world can change lives. Because I take this work seriously, I decided to study coaching professionally. I completed my diploma in coaching at NYU. During my program, I realized what it really means to be an active listener. Most people do not know how to listen without judging, most of us listen to respond. I did a lot of this, and advice giving, before I completed the coaching program. Through the program, I learned that the best advice comes from ourselves. We have all the answers; we just need someone to ask us the right questions.

That is what I do. I ask the questions that allow my clients to determine what is best for them, not what I, their boss, their neighbor, or anyone else thinks is best for them. While opinions of those we respect may matter, it is only through tapping into our own gut, mind, and heart that we can make decisions that are right for us. Sometimes, we think we are making a decision that is ours, but dig a bit deeper, and it becomes evident that not all decisions are our own.

Confidentiality is another aspect that I like to stress to my clients. When choosing a coach, it is important to make sure that whomever you decide to work with makes you feel comfortable and safe. Confidentiality is a crucial component of trust when it comes to a coaching relationship. As a coach who has completed an International Coach Federation (ICF) approved program, I hold myself to the highest ethical standards, details of which you can read on the ICF Code of Ethics page (link).
